IOWA — Newt Gingrich has been having an uphill battle gaining support for his candidacy for the GOP 2012 presidential nomination. Gingrich’s campaign is severely in debt and it had lost its leading managers over the summer months. Gingrich’s light, less-than-truly-conservative stance on illegal immigration has also raised the eyebrows of Iowa’s hardened voters. But now, Gingrich has received a bump in the polls, and from an unlikely action.

When pushed by the Iowan voters at a town hall event on Black Friday, Newt Gingrich unbuttoned his suit coat, untucked his light blue shirt, lifted it over his fat white belly, and proceeded to the do the Truffle Shuffle. Gingrich shook his midsection and wriggled his body as some in the crowd laughed, while others groaned in disbelief.

The action was caught on tape and uploaded online.

“We think it worked,” Gingrich’s one remaining unpaid staffer said, “the Truffle Shuffle actually worked. At first we weren’t sure, and everybody kind of looked at him like, ‘What are you doing?’ But we got a bump in the polls.”

“We didn’t know Newt had that in him!” said one excited innocent bystander. “I fell asleep halfway during his speech, and when I heard the audience roaring, I looked up and saw one of the most horrific sights I’ve ever seen.”

Rick Perry’s campaign was quick to release a statement about the strange Gingrich video floating around the web. “Whatever’ll get Newt a little attention is fine by us, but we’re not going to dance around for our votes.”

Herman Cain also mentioned Gingrich’s Truffle Shuffle: “Personally, and I’m only speaking from my own heart, I think what Newt Gingrich did on that stage in Iowa was a disgrace to a very, very good movie.”
