Lifeline or Flatline?

Lifeline or Flatline?

To me, life is made up of a series of single moments strung together to make a line.

This line is a different shape for every single person on the planet.

None of us have the same life line or life experience.

But having gone through the last couple years, I have come to the conclusion that many people don’t want to have a life line which deviates more than a couple of percentage points up or down from the level.

They have never been comfortable with a life which has peaks and troughs. They are a new type of person who only want to flat line their way through life.

This whole lockdown and furlough payment scheme is the life they have always craved. A life where responsibility and decision making is, for the most part, removed from their lives.

They have dreamt of a life away from the rat race and the constant stress, but have always lacked the courage to make the changes necessary to jump off the not so merry-go-round. This decision has been made for them, and they love it.

These Flatliners are the product of decades of psychological conditioning by government and media. The majority of whom will never want to have to make a serious decision for the rest of their lives.

Most people deal with the general ups and downs of life with a wry smile and accept that this is the way it goes, and know that there is always something to be positive about.

Even faced with the awfulness of our present situation, we would not want our lives and decisions to be taken out of our hands.

The Flatliners are the same people who queue up for an experimental injection because they have been ordered to do so by the government. They don’t seem to understand that this is something which will change everything.

The very thing they fear, is what is happening to them by obeying these instructions.

Having been scared by the threat of imminent death from a “virus”, they are shuffling towards their fate while muttering about how selfish other people are by not joining them.

Soon they will have no decision to make, even if they wanted to do so, which is a tragedy of enormous proportions. But their fate has been decided for them and unknown to them, by them.

We who like to make our own decisions, our life lines will never be flat, because we are aware of what is being done. We will suffer all the highs and lows of human existence, and be all the better for our experiences.

My personal life line has not only been up and down, it has gone round in circles and at times, shuddered to a screaming halt.

There have been moments where I have no idea how to proceed, but somehow found a way, or have been guided by an unseen hand.

This is how l feel about where we are today. Even when we don’t think we have a way out, we will be given the strength and mental resources to see that good will prevail in the end.

The people who like a life of no decision making, just don’t realise that they have made their biggest and probably last decision, by following the insane rules and instructions from the government.

Flatliners indeed.
