How Bill Hicks Nearly Saved America from the Miley Cyrus VMA Performance
Had comedian Bill Hicks been allowed to carry out his TV show “Let’s Hunt & Kill Billy Ray Cyrus”, America and the connected world would not have had to suffer that humiliating and degenerate performance by Miley Cyrus at the VMA Awards. Miley, who is said to have unseated the former Queen of Obscene Lady Gaga at last night’s show, would simply not have existed had Hicks been able to bring to fruition his 30 minute TV show.
Watch Hicks explain the show here, starting at the 45 sec mark:
Miley Cyrus is twenty years old, and Hicks performance was just over two decades ago. The timing would have been divine. In fact, Hicks had his finger on the pulse of humanity and was so sensitive to it, he perceived the future dangers of having a Billy Ray Cyrus running free through America.
All Hicks wanted to do was “…rid the world of these fevered egos tainting our collective unconscious and making us pay a higher psychic price than we can fuckin’ imagine.”
I wish every single American had to take a class on Bill Hicks in high school.
The world isn’t meant for evolved minds like his.
I thought about this statement for a few minutes, and I have to agree with you. Hicks, before the Internet (even more impressively!) seemed to be naturally inclined to critique and poke holes into everything political, societal, and cultural. He couldn’t stand hypocrisy. Yet, he wasn’t some scholar or academic savior to pontificate to us all from above — he used knowledge and logic anybody can acquire with a little skill and appreciation. So yes, if there’s anything American children could use more of would be logic and a disdain for hypocrisy, that way the nation would be able to tell when Barack Obama or Bush Jr is lying to us.
