Why Can’t You Freestyle?

Perhaps you can’t relax the strangling grip your dorsolateral cortex has on your brain functions. You can’t let the words fly without trying to exercise control over them. Maybe you’re too uptight. Are you have problems channeling your creativity?
I suffered from a bit of jealousy as I watched my buddy Open Mike Eagle freestyle to a beat on stage. I’d loved his studio recordings, but to see him crank out random words that not only made sense together, but carried a rhythm and wittiness about them was really another experience. How did he make that stuff up on the fly like that?
A recent scientific study sought to explain just what happens in the brain when a rapper goes “freestyle”. What allows him or her to perform this type of magic? The scientists stuck Open Mike into the claustrophobic fMRI tube and told him to rap. They found:
Restrictions aside, the researchers discovered important information about creativity. When the rappers freestyle rapped, activity in the medial prefrontal cortex (which is responsible for self-interested behavior) increased, while activity in the dorsolateral cortex (which regulates executive function), decreased. Also, while the rappers freestyled, the medial prefrontal cortex networked with other areas, including regions responsible for language and the amygdala, which plays a role emotions. And even though Eagle associates movement with freestyling, the brain did not show any increased activity in areas responsible for motor activity.

Humanity is moving into the 4th dimension soon, anyway. Racism will be stamped out when our thoughts become visible and manifest themselves instantly. Black or white will be small in comparison to fully realized consciousness.
The realization will be heavy. We’re all humans? Oh shit. We’re all plugged into one consciousness? Good God. You mean we’re subjectively exploring that consciousness and experiencing reality in our own time and manner?
Any day now, we’ll be movin on up. To the Fourth Dimension.
