The Corruption of Democracy and the Possibility of Cure

If anything has shown how democracy in the UK has been hijacked from the inside and outside politics, it’s the Brexit shambles.

In this piece, I will try to put the case for a complete clearing out of the House of Commons and if necessary, the House of Lords.

For me, the most infuriating aspect of the debacle is the obvious self interest of every single member of the House of Commons, in a situation where the good of country should have been paramount.

Not a single politician will come out of this mess with their reputation intact. They are providing time and time again that they are unfit to represent their constituents.

They are heaping international embarrassment upon the UK, seemingly unaware of how they look to the rest of the world.

The frustration felt by the general public at the childish antics of these people is building, and I fear this frustration will eventually boil over into civil unrest.

I believe both sides of the Brexit debate are equally angered by the torturous lack of progress.

This is apparently something which has gone unnoticed by politicians blinded by their utterly selfish attitudes.

So, what can be done about this to make sure this kind of behaviour is a thing of the past?

My opinion is that if we keep the current system, this will continue to be repeated endlessly. A new system of government has to be adopted. A system which would see the end of the practice of political youth going straight from university to being groomed to be future politicians. This goes on with all parties and it has to be stopped.

So many current politicians have absolutely zero real life experience and this shows up in almost every vacuous utterance. They are completely cut off from reality and cannot possibly properly represent their constituency. We have to end this nonsense.

Other important issues are nepotism and cronyism. This of course has been going on since time immemorial, but it has to be dealt with as a matter of urgency.

The system cannot be used to promote people because they are related or favoured by a current politician.

There will have to be a complete clearing out of the House of Commons plus the abolishment of the Scottish Parliament, which does not work in its current state, mainly due to the above reasons.

Cronyism and nepotism is rife in the Scottish Parliament and this cannot continue.

Some of the MSPs are so short of talent and intelligence it’s mind boggling.

People who could and would be excellent at running the country are put off by the boorish attitudes of politicians and the invasion of privacy by the media. So good people are lost, and we see the result of this problem.

*Back in Westminster, at this moment, 14.46 pm, 29th of March, the moronic politicians have yet again rejected something which they had previously agreed with, despite being told that if this vote was rejected, the possibility of a no deal Brexit is almost inevitable. The utter stupidity and selfishness of these cretinous excuses for human beings, is beyond description.

Once again proving my point that they are not fit to be representing the public.*

The entire UK political system is in disrepute and has to be dismantled immediately.

My idea is to have all current politicians, local and national, removed from office. Allow the country (UK) to be run by civil servants for a period of six to 18 months, depending on progress.

During this time, small local groups will be brought together, with people who are life experienced, and would run small areas of the country. This would be along similar lines to some European countries.

Once these groups are in place and boundaries set, there would be a period to test the model and make changes where needed.

Meanwhile, the civil service would be dealing with the smooth running of the country, and training people to take the political reins.

After 18 months of this bedding in process, there would be elections to the local areas. All finance from taxation would be dealt with by the civil service. Local areas would assess what was needed and get their funding directly.

The least political interference in the running of the county the better.

I know that human nature is likely to attempt to reverse this process and pull it back to the usual, he said, she said, politics, but that has to be resisted.

We cannot ever again allow the corruption of democracy

This piece is not meant to be some kind of panacea for political change. It is only a framework for other ideas and interactions.

No system is perfect, but the current system is fatally damaged and completely unfit for purpose.

We have to look at all viable alternatives.
