BRADLEY MASON HAMLIN

I told her
the unicorns she dreams of
exist
mermaids, too
that crazy Santa Claus
and the Easter Bunny

all genuine

those magical creatures
survive
in this reality, I told her
or you wouldn’t form pictures
inside your mind
when I say

unicorn
mermaid
Santa Claus
or Easter Bunny

obviously
they exist in some form

we know who they are but
sometimes forget,
maybe not enough room inside
our heads
for mystic friends
or monsters

fairies, elves, and wild ones

and perhaps
that’s why
so many men grow mean
unable
to see the hidden ghosts
partying inside the forest

or why

people believe a baloney
sandwich
with mayonnaise

is real food.
