JOHN BENNETT

(originally sent to Bennett’s email list — see also Facebook Eruption“, about the fallout from this poem)

The cupboard
is bare
the barrel’s
been drained
the lease
has been
broken the
mood altered
the cows
didn’t come
home &
the dream
shattered.

But up
goes the
flag anyhow,
the price
of corn
& the
drones
and down
comes
the sky
as we
huddle at
the feet
of Moloch
in its
Facebook disguise.
